What do Pet Emergencies Look Like?

Can you tell if your pet needs to see the emergency vet? It’s not always obvious, so keep an eye out for the following:

  • Blood in stool, urine, or vomit
  • Suffered traumatic injury from collision with a car or falling from a high place
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea for over 24 hours
  • Trouble urinating or defecating
  • Got into a fight with another dog, cat, or wild animal
  • Has a chronic cough
  • Gagging or choking
  • Abdomen appears unusually bloated and is firm to the touch
  • Seizures
  • Injury to one or both eyes
  • Burn injury
  • Is sitting with their head pressed up against the wall
  • Appears confused and disoriented
  • Is bleeding from their nose, ears, and/or mouth
  • Ingested a toxic substance
